U.N.I.O.N. vs. Spark
The Union is a secret United nations body charged with protecting the world from extra-national threats. It has been in existence since the late 70’s, having been created after the debacle of the Vietnam war. The nations of the Security Council understood that warfare is no longer the means to pursuing national goals, and instead economic leverage, coupled with more subtle military action, has similar benefits without the same expenditure of manpower. This move towards economic struggle, with the loss of the always apparent military superpower, set the stage for the economic superpower, or the corporation. Many corporations are exactly what they seem. Yes they are cut throat and engage in questionable business practices, but soon a new kind of entity appeared. Corporations that were more and more ambitious, and willing to use any means available to attain their goals. By the time the U.N. was realizing the new methods of exerting your power, corporations were already ravaging countries, people were disappearing. This was the reason for the UNION. These new entities, protected by the very rights the world’s leaders had spent so long trying to enact and enforce upon the world at large, had to be brought to heel.
